October 15, 2010

Fishing pressure has been very low for the past several days, however the weather has been mostly pretty good, and the few catches reported were very good. Most Captains were fishing from straight out to southwest, but some have had good success to the northwest also.  The lake continues to be very warm with temperatures in the 60’s down to more than 80′ or more in some places, but is now cooler on the inside.  Very few fish were being taken in the near-shore waters, but the fish seem to be closer in than they have been since early September. Catches have been mixed with many steelhead this week, and a good number of three year old salmon. Almost no four year old salmon are being taken.  Please note: the lake trout season ended September 30. Please handle any accidentally caught Lake Trout and release them for next year. Unfortunately, you can not keep any lake trout, even those which  will not survive.

Due to the very light fishing pressure, this will likely be the last weekly report of the 2010 season.

Most of the recent catches have been taken trolling in much deeper water where the baits can reach down into the cooler water.  Unlike earlier in the season, fishing in the deeper water (120′ or more) can continue to be productive all day long.

Fishing has been almost exclusively with spoons lately, with glow spoons early. Getting the baits away from the boat, and fishing a variety of depths and terminal gear will produce if one puts in the time. Riggers from 40’ to 80’. Copper lines, and long line wire divers in the clear water tend to be the best producers. Reports of copper lines of, 200, 300’ or 350’ or more are common.

Divers, especially large divers with large rings with wire line are also producing action, both high and low, but in longer lengths, from 100 up to 250’ or more, which can reach far away from the boat and very deep.
